Global Impact Through Student Leadership

From October 10th to 12th 2014 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, student delegates from over 50 nations representing over 200 campuses came together to network, build skills and share ideas with the goal of ending extreme poverty. The Jenzabar Foundation, a primary sponsor of the conference, also hosted faculty and administrators from 15 different colleges and universities as well as their student leaders. The Foundation had the privilege of presenting a Global Generation Award to Millennium Fellow Netia McCray, founder of Mbadika, a MIT start-up aspiring young innovators and entrepreneurs around the world.

Other recipients of the Global Generation Award included:

The weekend started off with some amazing “call to action” stories from Monisha Holmes, Energy Maburutse, and other Lynn University students. Several keynote speakers held debates and forums throughout the whole weekend, this got the students to collectively discuss and brain storm ideas such as the difference between donating and serving, social ventures, sex trafficking pertaining to us (how many slaves work for you?), systemic racism, the Day of the Girl, and many more noteworthy topics. Students collectively thought outside of the box and openly questioned and discussed new ideas, sharing them with the speakers to get their input as well. As Kristen Davis said, the place was filled with so much energy and hope. To characterize the energy and enthusiasm of conference, Alexander Star, a hip-hop singer, kept the momentum going throughout the whole weekend. The Jenzabar Foundation also hosted an information table at the Change the World Fair where they were able to meet many students and answer all their questions.

All the student delegates had wonderful opportunities to discuss their ideas, connect with one another, and learn how to make a difference and change the world. The weekend was closed with a call to action where the student delegates and speakers left inspired, connected, and ready to change the world. The Millennials are here and their time is now!!!

Much thanks to Millennium Campus Networks!
