What Did You Do With Your Jenzabar Foundation Grant?
The New York College of Podiatric Medicine received a special “Boston Strong” Award from The Jenzabar Foundation in 2013. This unique award recognized NYCOPM students in their noble community service in the medical tent at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon, providing assistance in the aftermath of the bombing.
Let’s see where they are now and how this grant has helped them help others:
On August 16th, in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Iorio, along with Dr. Timothy Bui and 40 New York College of Podiatric Medical Students participated in a day of foot screenings at the ADA’s “Feria de Salud Sobre la Diabetes,” St. Mary’s Park, Bronx, New York. More than 3,000 underserved and under insured men, women and children from the community came to the event. As stated by Dr. Frank Spinosa, President of the American Podiatric Medical Association, “With proactive foot care, diabetes patients can reduce the risk of infection and amputation, improve function and quality of life, and reduce healthcare costs.” In addition to foot screenings participants were also provided vascular, neurological and other critical examinations.
